The absolute joy in the room when a baby takes a breath and gives his first cry is indescribable. Seeing mom’s and dad’s faces as they look upon their little miracle for the first time this side of the womb is my favorite thing. It’s part of why I love my job as a pediatric resident so much! I’ve been working in the nursery this month so I’ve gotten to see a plethora of babies being born. But one of the most special births was of my co-resident’s son. I had the honor of getting to catch little Michael in the OR, dry him off, wrap him up and hand him to his anxiously awaiting parents.
Knowing all the struggles and joys of residency makes me respect moms like Kelsey even more. We were so grateful as she made it to full term and Michael came safely into the world.
My favorite part of the photo shoot was when Kelsey and Chris were looking adoringly into Michael’s eyes when he had such a big sneeze that a huge booger flew onto Chris’s face! We couldn’t help it, we all burst into laughter. Such a mighty sneeze from such a little guy.
Kelsey and Chris, you have such an adorable baby boy. He was so relaxed and easy to work with. And Copper, your first baby, did an amazing job as well. I pray that Micheal lets you sleep some and that he helps you be the best pediatrician you can be!
