The afternoon was beautiful, 75 degrees and sunny. The forecast showed no rain. However, as I drove to Lonoke for Eva’s graduation shoot the temperature started to drop. At the very front of Lonoke’s high school, the wind blew Eva’s gorgeous curls as she posed by the building that held so many memories for her over the last 4 years. As a photographer, I loved the dynamic effect that the wind added to the photos, but the chill that came with it grew more and more uncomfortable as the evening went on. Eva and her wonderfully detailed oriented mom (graciously fixing every hair out of place and adjusting the cap and gown time and time again) were such troopers and smiled throughout the session as if we were spending a lovely day at the beach.
I have had the honor of watching Eva grow into the beautiful woman she is over the past 7 years. Eva never lets anything get her down. She has always persevered through tough times believing in the end goal. With her plans to do a premed track at Ole Miss, I have no doubt that she will achieve whatever she puts her mind to. She showed her adventurous and steadfast spirit last night as she helped my dream of doing a confetti shot come true. We only had 3 tries, and the wind was not behaving. On the second try, it changed directions and flew directly into her eye! Taking a break from the pictures, her mom saved the day by picking out the confetti from her eyelid and lashes and fixing the mascara that was streaming down her face. I told Eva we could move on to another pose but she was game to give it one more shot which turned out to be the lucky winner!
Eva, thank you for braving the cold and the wind with me. Thank you for letting me join you in a place that holds so many precious memories for you. While it is important to look back and remember the good times, I hope that you turn your gaze forward to the times ahead. I pray that you make amazing friends at Ole Miss and study hard, always having your dreams in mind. And like with the confetti, I truly believe that even if things take more than one try, you will succeed.
I’ve known Eva for 8 sweet years. She is an amazing young lady. I know that she is bound for great things. She is and will be a difference maker in our world.
Congratulations Eva!
